The Phoenix was situated at 122 Gosford
Street. This pub, popular with students, close to Coventry Uni, closed on 6
September. Originally the Parrot and Griffin in 1720, before a name change
to Sir Colin Campbell (1868) in honour of a soldier who fought under
Wellington in the Napoleonic Wars, and later in the Indian Mutiny. The name
was shortened to The Campbell in the early 2000s, prior to closure and
reopening as the Phoenix. |
