The Star & Garter was situated on Marton Road. This pub was closed and demolished in the 1970s to make way for the A66 road extension.

The pub was adjacent to the Corporation Bus Exchange and just up from the Y Bus stop. As kids going home from the pictures, we'd ask the blokes coming out of the pub for a "tanner" to get some chips - never went home hungry. Gentler days I think.
