The Erimus was situated on Newton Street. Publican in 1893 was John
Rutherford. |

This is where I had my first pint. Well it was a pint of shandy actually but I
WAS legal at the time. I sat down to enjoy my 'pint' and a bit of
conversation and after a while I had got so far with it before feeling a
great urge to visit the small room. In there I unexpectedly sluiced off
like a police horse. Slightly bemused I returned to my seat and my pint and
drank some more, and blow me if the same process didn't happen all over
again. Understandably I was getting a bit worried by then as I was not
aware of the diuretic properties of alcohol. Returning to my drink I got a
bit further down and had to visit the room again - but I was getting used to
it by then.
