The Anchor Inn was situated on Southcoates Lane.
Also known as Blue Heaven, it was a large pub with a bowling green to the
rear. It has now been demolished. |

I was born in The Anchor in 1946 as my parents were landlords Joseph
Taylor. My father’s first wife Annie died there when she fell through
the skylights when hanging our washing on the flat roof. I remember the
bowling green that my dad was so proud of and used to mow it regularly. |
