The Beacon was situated on Reevy Road West. It became famous as a scene in the 1987 comedy ‘Rita, Sue and Bob Too” by Andrea Dunbar, a local resident. The pub, which opened in 1969, closed in August 2016. In October 2019 planning permission was approved to demolish the vandalised building and to build homes on the site.
