Dun Cow

The Dun Cow, Brinklow

The Dun Cow was situated on Rugby Road. This pub closed in 2002 and was subsequently demolished and replaced with housing.
My father was born & brought up in the village, his family having lived in the village for some 250-300 years. The Dun Cow was his ‘local’ as he lived just around the corner off Heath Lane. When I was old enough, I visited the pub alone for a lunchtime drink. I was refused at the bar – I was affronted! The (very) elderly gentleman who wouldn’t take my order had recognised my resemblance to my father and thought it would be funny! He did, however, kindly send over a young man who did take my order so I wasn’t too miffed… I’ve sat outside many times with my sisters, parents & grandparents, and was truly sad to find it boarded up last time I visited the village at the same time understanding that so many have closed – why would my favourites be spared? Sad Times..
