Celebrity guests at today’s meeting of the
Redhill Folk Club are country blues stars Gerry Loughran and Royd Rivers.
They have been playing together for nearly two years and are rapidly
establishing themselves as leaders in England of their own style of playing.
Dick Richardson, one of the resident hosts at the Redhill club, first met
Gerry and Royd when he took part with them in concert at Brighton last year.
Also appearing at the George and Dragon, Cromwell Road this evening will be
Dick Richardson and Dick Hook, the two local singer-guitarists already
established as competent and skilful folkers. Dick Hook, who lives in
Salfords is fond of American ballads of all kinds while Dick Richardson of
Victoria Road, Redhill, prefers to root out old English folk songs and also
plays a swinging blues on his new 12-string guitar. Dave Smith, a superb
blues and mountain guitarist and host at the Croydon Folk Club should also
be present with colleague John Trendell. All in all this promises to be one
of the best folk evenings the Redhill Club has seen for long time. |
