The Victoria

The Victoria was situated on Norton Road.

Goldings Public House Ltd, running the pub as The Victoria, has gone into liquidation (London Gazette 28 March 2026). It has played a very central role in the village community. It is unclear whether the pub will re-open under new ownership or be sold as part of the liquidation process. The property underwent extensive refurbishment for 3 years leading up to re-opening in 2022.
As the oldest known pub in Thurston, 1841 Census shows the publican as William Ridgeon. Subsequent Census returns and Directories show it was still in the same family until the 1890s. From 1912-1954 it was run by Harry Peachey and his wife Sarah. They kept a number of farm animals, including cows, and milk from those cows was sold from the pub.
