The fish market is held in the open space in
front of the New Inn and the Three Legs, and is occupied by stalls put up
and supplied and managed by the Bryants and Bates – rival fish dealers from
Brentford. It is their custom with very loud voices to recriminate each
other with compliments on their respective appearance and good looks and
decrying each other’s wares. These are very amusing to customers, but not
conducive to good manners. |
