Kings Arms, Uxbridge

Date of photo: 1914

The Kings Arms was situated at 20 High Street. This grade-II listed pub closed c1960. After closure, it became a garden centre, which closed in 1976. By August, 1986, it had been transformed into ‘plush new offices’. Uxbridge’s local historian, Ken Pearce, described the modern windows on the ground floor as ‘Kentucky Fried Tudor’.

A very old inn with gables in front and an oriel window over the gateway, known as The Kings Arms, and kept by E Clerk. Buildings down this yard are ancient, one larger than the others being used as the Police Court.
