This pub was also known as the Standing Cross

At the age of nine, I moved to within a couple
of hundred yards of this pub and, in fact, spent a lot of my time playing
with the son of the landlord. I don’t remember it ever being called the
George but can’t swear that it never was. In my day, it was always the
Standings Cross. Many years later, it’s name was changed to the Poet. |
