The Spotted Dog was situated on Puddock
Road. This pub was later known as The Blue Dog and has now been demolished. |
|
|
|
In 1911 it was occupied by Richard Baldock and
family. In 1941 Richard's Son, Charles Baldock and his brother-in-law Harry
Coulson were walking to the work at the farm over the road from the Blue
Dog. They encountered Josef Jakobs, a Nazi spy, who had parachuted into a
field near the pub. He was subsequently tried and became the last person to
be executed in the Tower of London. The pub became the Blue Dog farm,
which continued to be worked by Harry Coulson and his wife Dora (nee Baldock)
into the 1960s. |
