From Cambridgeshire Heritage: |

17th century public house with 19th and 20th
century alterations. The building is timber framed and roughcast rendered,
with a 20th century plain tiled roof. It comprises two storeys and an attic,
and has an original three unit plan. The end stack is to the left hand and
the ridge stack is square planned. There is modern fenestration, including a
two storey bay window to the left hand, two ground floor casement windows
and a single storey bay window. Internally there is an exposed timber-frame
and 17th century roof. The building was severely damaged by fire in January
2009 and subsequently added to the risk register at category 1. The historic
range that fronts the street lost most of its roof. Although the fabric of
the lower floors survived it was damaged by water used to put the fire out
and was not immediately secured or protected from the elements so further
damage occurred. In February 2010 scheduled building consent was granted for
works to repair the exterior of the house, namely reinstating the roof and
replacing windows. |
