The King Canute was situated at 2 Canvey Road. Built in 1937, the pub was originally called the Red Cow. It was renamed the King Canute after the 1953 floods when the armed forces used the pub as headquarters for Operation King Canute, the clean-up. It is now used as a convenience store.
