The Black Lion Public House GV II Public
house. C18 and early C19, extended in C20. Partly timber-framed and
weatherboarded, partly of painted brick in Flemish bond, roofed with
handmade red clay tiles. Timber-framed building of 4 bays facing SW, of one
storey with attics, with one rear stack, and full-length lean-to extension
to rear. Small lean-to extension to front. To left, early C19 brick building
of L-plan, with external stack in left rear angle, of 2 storeys, and C19
rear extension of one storey with attics, weatherboarded with hipped roof,
and single-storey extension beyond. C20 lean-to extensions to left and in
left rear angle. Ground floor, 2 early C19 tripartite sashes of 4-12-4
lights, one late C19 splayed bay of 8-16-8 lights, and one late C19
tripartite sash of 2-4-2 lights. First floor, 2 early C19 tripartite sashes
of 4-12-4 lights and one early C19 sash of 4 + 8 lights in slated lean-to
dormer. C20 door with side-lights in C20 flat-roofed porch. Roof of brick
building hipped. The smaller weatherboarded building to the right has a
gambrel roof. |
