The Pot House was situated on Croft
Terrace. The pub closed on 8 November 2025. Built in 1895, and
formerly known as The Harbour Of Refuge, the renamed pub takes its name from
the numerous pottery tiles that covered the outside walls. Over the years it
had been a live-music venue. The last landlady, Elaine Gooding, took over in
2014. Locals hope it will be bought and re-opened as a pub, but given its
location harbour and sea views, it is a good bet for residential
accommodation. On a small green, adjacent to the pub, is a statue of "Andy
Capp", the cartoon character created in 1957 by Hartlepool cartoonist Reg
Smythe, and published in "The Mirror". |
