Alan Knight 1973-1974 The Lockyer Tavern was a "Gay" pub, at a time when homosexual liaisons were illegal. When the gay-friendly landlord retired, the licence was taken by a former R. N. officer. Two gays walked into the bar, and he told them to leave, "I don't serve ******". They sued. It became a "cause celebre" on local talk radio, until a Dev grandmother phoned in and said "T'aint roight, they getting stuck up men's *****!"
