EXPIRED IN A PUBLIC-HOUSE
An Inquest was held at the Town Hall, Derby, this (Saturday) morning by Mr. J. Close (the Borough Coroner) relative to the death of John Garratt, who died in a public-house on Friday morning. Deceased was 70 years of age, and was a farmer of Ratcliffe-on-Soar. His son drove to him to Kegworth station on Friday morning, and had not seen him since. - William George Sharratt, manager of the Castlefields Inn, Siddals-road, Derby, said deceased came into the bar about 11 o'clock on Friday morning. He ordered something to drink, but only moistened his lips. Witness then went out, and when he returned deceased was sitting in the same position, but with his head forward. Witness tried to rouse him, and sent for Dr. St. John, who pronounced him dead, death being due to heart failure owing to fatty de-generation of that organ.
